Hoyo de Monterrey

Cuba · est. 1865 · Habanos S.A. (Cuba) / General Cigar Co. (U.S.)

José Gener registered Hoyo de Monterrey in 1865, naming it after the vega he farmed in San Juan y Martínez — a hoyo is the low ground, the sunken field that grows the best Vuelta Abajo leaf. The Cuban line sits at the lighter end of the Habanos range and the Epicure No. 2 is its reference robusto. General Cigar owns the U.S. trademark, where Hoyo de Monterrey is a Honduran cigar and a considerably stronger one.
